"Beautiful Things Come From Our Brokenness" is the theme of this evening's special program, a fund-raiser to benefit the new Alberta School of Performing Arts. Alberta Elementary School was destroyed by the EF4 tornado that struck Tuscaloosa on April 27, 2011. (Thankfully, after school had been dismissed.) The students were absorbed by other schools while a new school with an innovative arts curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities was built, adding a new element to Tuscaloosa's public schools.
Mayor Walt Maddox will give the opening speech, highlighting the unexpected good things that would not have come about had the tornado not struck Tuscaloosa. The author will give a brief reading, then will moderate a panel of characters from the book (all of them with a tie to Tuscaloosa). James Spann will close the evening.
Barnes & Noble will donate 10% of tonight's book sales to Alberta School of Performing Arts. There may be a silent auction and/or other ways to donate (all proceeds of which will benefit the school). The author would like to raise $5,000 for this great new school.
